About the data
An open dataset of US produce prices as USDA reports them: what growers were paid, what wholesale buyers paid, and what supermarkets advertised. Collected after every report with Kadoa; code and data are open source on GitHub.

How to read it
- Shipping point is what growers' first buyers paid in a region. Wholesale is the price at the New York, Chicago and Los Angeles terminal markets. Retail is the advertised sale price in supermarket weekly ads, weighted by store count.
- A price is the low and high of the day's sales, in US dollars per package. Nothing is averaged across products or converted to a common weight.
- Each chart is one product in one market. Percentages compare the midpoint of the range with the nearest report 4 or 52 weeks earlier.
- Gaps are real: USDA quotes a product only while its region is shipping. Weekends and holidays are joined; longer gaps are left open, never filled in.
- USDA corrects reports; the last 15 days are re-collected on every run, so recent values can change.
Market news
USDA items are changes in the market tone reporters record with each report ("steady", "slightly higher"). Markon items are crop updates from Markon, a produce supplier, shown as short summaries with a link. Markon's content is theirs and is not in the downloads.
