Meet the Team
The Information Technology department is core to the health and growth of Millennium’s business. The firm’s active, multi-manager model demands flexible, scalable technology and advanced proprietary systems, including the development of the next generation of analytical and trading capabilities. The Fixed Income Applications development team builds and supports a pricing engine used by more than 300 portfolio teams, covering a broad range of financial products (bonds, futures, options, FX spots/forwards, deposits, swaps, commodities, swaptions, CDX, CDS, equities, etc). As a result, this team supports both live streaming and ETL data providers, as well as downstream distribution to analytics, risk, and trader systems (such as analytics, risk, and trader systems).
Team members interact directly with business users and other technology teams, so solid communication skills are essential. The team owns the entire software lifecycle, from requirements and design, through implementation, to production releases and support. Release cycles are tight, so in addition to strong development skills, you must have demonstrated the ability to adapt to changing conditions and learn quickly.
We are looking for an experienced player/coach who can liaise with business users and our support team to help work out functional and technical requirements, while balancing efforts across product silos and build-out vs clearing technical debt or bugs. The role requires being able to provide leadership/mentoring on some work while being an individual contributor on other items. There are no business analysts on the team, so we expect developers to have the ability to learn or have sufficient business and product knowledge to understand the requirements on their own. That said, this is not a quantitative role – there is a separate analytics team that undertakes valuation and related work.
What You'll Do
Build, enhance, and support a pricing engine used across the firm’s fixed income platform
Deliver solutions across a wide range of financial products, including bonds, futures, options, FX, swaps, commodities, and credit products
Partner directly with business users, support teams, and technology stakeholders to define functional and technical requirements
Own the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through production release and support
Balance delivery across product silos while managing technical debt, bug fixes, and platform improvements
Provide leadership and mentorship on selected initiatives while contributing directly as an individual contributor on others
Cover integration of live streaming from vendors like Bloomberg, Refinitiv, etc. for distribution to downstream analytics, risk, and trading systems
Adapt quickly to changing priorities and tight release cycles in a fast-moving development environment
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
7+ years experience working within the Java
Experience developing against relational databases
Strong project management skills and a proven ability to collaborate across a broad range of domains and stakeholder groups
Experience with event streaming like Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc. and distributed caching like Hazelcast, REDIS, Memcached, etc.
Experience working with end users on requirements definition
Experience working as mentor within teams either as functional or technical lead, formally or informally
Financial markets knowledge in at least one product area, such as fixed income, commodities, or derivatives
