The D. E. Shaw group seeks a product designer to join the Human Capital team focused on delivering high-quality, organized design execution across multiple platforms. The team partners with product managers to craft thoughtful, polished, and rigorous user experiences, leveraging a tailored design system and emerging AI-powered workflows. This role offers the opportunity to own detailed design implementation work while developing skills in early-stage strategy, design resource management, and a range of AI tools. Responsibilities: Drive the execution of user experience design across custom web platforms, ensuring consistency and quality at every stage. Build, maintain, and evolve design systems in Figma, utilizing features such as components, slots, variables and semantic tokenization, and Code Connect. Actively research, evaluate, and implement AI-enabled workflows to improve all aspects of the software development process—from ideation to handoff. Create AI-consumable resources that drive high-quality design execution such as Figma Make Kits, skills, and guideline docs. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and timelines to deliver polished outcomes. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate requirements into clear, actionable design solutions. Who We're Looking For: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, plus four to seven years of experience in UI/UX design and a track record of delivering high-quality work across platforms. Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including hands-on experience with auto layout, components, slots, variables and semantic tokenization, and design system management. Demonstrated enthusiasm for and experience with AI-powered design workflows, such as Claude and Figma Make. Exceptional attention to detail, from system-level architecture to pixel-level refinement. Ability to manage several projects at once and adapt to shifting priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging stakeholders ranging from individual contributors to leadership. Proven ability to design complex systems involving multiple user types and workflows, and to clearly articulate design rationale. The expected annual base salary for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
